I’m really feeling the black and white’s lately…. especially when it comes to outdoor nature shots. I don’t get much time to do any personal shooting this time of year, but when I do, I find I can only see them in black and white – right from the beginning. Occasionally, some colour will pop up though, unexpectedly – a bright spot in an otherwise brown and drab setting.

I got a chance to explore in between sessions the other day (despite the frigid temperatures)…. here’s some of the things I found. It’s always cool to me how, even though something looks plain and ordinary at first glance, it can be beautiful and unique – you just have to take the time to really look.

I hope you’ll check out the other 3 talented ladies participating in this project with me! First up is Denean Melcher – you’ll find her post here.

I am always so thrilled when someone asks me to take their graduation photos. I don’t do the “typical” ones, in front of a studio backdrop. And, while I like those, I think it’s important that grads get to be photographed in a way that reflects their personality; in a more natural and fun way.    Haley brought her family along, and her boyfriend too – and although it was chilly, you couldn’t get the smile of anyone’s faces. They are obviously so proud of her, and she is so happy to be graduating.

Here are my favourites (although I’ll be honest, there wasn’t a bad shot in the bunch) 🙂

Congrats again, Haley! Thanks for trusting me to document this very important time in your life! 🙂

I first met Krista back when she was in a wedding I shot a couple of years back.  That whole crew was a blast to work with, so when Krista contacted me to say she was planning her own wedding, I was thrilled that they chose me to be their photographer as well.  I don’t know if I can explain how much fun and laughter was had during their engagement session. I know I put my camera down a couple of times because I was giggling myself. I love couples like that. When you’re relaxed and don’t take yourself too seriously, I can guarantee natural, fun photos will result. You’ll see what I mean once you look at these photos – laughter,  then a romantic shot, followed by Krista pinching his cheeks.  Here are my favourites:

I’m *so* excited for your wedding next summer, you two. If it’s half as fun as this session was, we’re in for a fabulous day ♥

  • Debbie - Thanks for doing such a great photo session ,krista is my daughter and can’t wait for the wedding to add Jason to the familyReplyCancel

This family holds a very special place in my heart…. not only are Tricia and I really great friends, but they were the first people to actually pay me to take their photos, way back when I started 4 years ago.  That first session, little Brycie hadn’t even been born yet (although he was in the photos 😉 ).  Fast forward to November 2013, and Brycie and his brothers have grown SO much. I love watching them grow up from behind my lens.

We always have fun when the Rooney’s get in front of my camera… including an infamous spontaneous mud fight awhile back. This time around, we did some sunny farm photos, followed by some more Christmas-themed ones… including a big ol’ pillow fight. I seriously couldn’t stop laughing and smiling… it was a blast!

Tricia got some ideas from Pinterest for the Christmas-themed photos.  Please let me know if you see fun things somewhere that you’d like to try for your photos! We can definitely work together to make it happen 🙂

Here’s the 2nd of the weddings I shot on Thanksgiving weekend. I know that everyone has been patiently waiting to see more than the 3 or 4 photos I posted on Facebook, and I’m ever so happy to grant your wish, finally 🙂

Kendall and Jeff had an absolutely gorgeous wedding day. The weather was perfect, the fall colours were in full bloom, the sun was shining… but all anyone was saw was how in love these two are.  Once again I found myself laughing, and crying, and laughing again. This bridal party was an absolute hoot to be around, even though they thoroughly embarrassed me at the reception. Thanks again for that, guys ;). Never did I think I’d find myself at the mall with a bridal party before a wedding reception either, but it happened (hey, even brides and grooms need bathroom breaks now and then, haha). There were a few surprises for the bride at the reception too, including her father dancing with her (apparently he practiced up), and an awesome Fresh Prince of Bel-Air rap done by the bride’s sister.  It’s safe to say everyone had a ball, including me.

So here’s what you’ve all been waiting for…. some images. I hope this helps you to relive your wedding day a little bit guys ♥

Yes, this is a real bear – in Kendall’s parent’s yard. We had literally *just* gone in the house for a few moments, after doing some photos pre-ceremony.  Next thing you know, here he is, not far from where we were standing. Never a dull moment shooting a wedding I tell you 😉

“Well I love her
But I love to fish
I spend all day out on this lake
And hell is all I catch
Today she met me at the door
Said I would have to choose
If I hit that fishin’ hole today
She’d be packin’ all her things
And she’d be gone by noon

Well, I’m gonna miss her!
When I get home
But right now I’m on this lake shore
And I’m sittin’ in the sun
I’m sure it’ll hit me
When I walk through that door tonight
Yeah, I’m gonna miss her
Oh, look there, another bite”

Brad Paisley

As always, I saved a few favourites for the end of the post ♥

Kendall and Jeff, it was truly my pleasure to document your wedding day…. I look forward to showing you the rest 🙂
