  • Welcome to my blog!

    Hi, and thanks for dropping by! This is where I post my latest work, as well as a few personal photos now and then! Please leave me a comment or two, I love to get them :) I would love it if you dropped me a line too, even just to say hi! Thanks again!

  • A little about me!

    My name is Faye, and I'm a photographer here in Miramichi, NB, Canada. I absolutely love my job! My favourite part is when I give you something that you will cherish for years to come. Capturing how people really are, the little details, and the emotions of the day, is what I strive for. I would be grateful to have the opportunity to do it for you someday, too :) Thanks for checking out my work, and I hope to hear from you soon!

52 Fridays – Week 20 {Miramichi NB Photographer} {Personal Project}

This week the theme for our 52 Fridays project is:

{LONG EXPOSURE}

For the non-photographers checking this out, long exposure means long shutter speeds. Basically, when you press the shutter button on your camera, you leave the shutter open for anywhere from 1/2 second to minutes to hours.  Just for reference, typical shutter speeds I use normally range anywhere from 1/60th of a second to 1/1000th of a second, depending on the lighting and the situation…effectively freezing the action.  But by using these longer shutter speeds, you let a lot more light into the camera… and the effects you get from this type of photography can be absolutely stunning and very cool. You do need a tripod for these types of photos normally, otherwise everything will be a blurry mess.  You probably have seen photos captured using this technique before without ever realizing it.

One type of photo that I have seen captured this way before, that I absolutely love, is with moving water – waterfalls, rivers, etc. I have always wanted to try this technique out, but for some reason I just never did. Of course, there aren’t exactly waterfalls everywhere you turn in this area, but I’m very fortunate to know about a secret little spot, tucked underneath a busy highway – a spot that provided the perfect location for these shots.

And my personal favourite…..

Now that I’ve tried this technique out, I’m excited to try it out again! Looking forward to some sunset shots of the river this summer!

I can’t wait to see what everyone else in the group shot this week!! Let’s start with my amazingly talented friend Stacy Vitallo of D’Lara Photography.

This are beautiful. I have tried this a few times and never been so successful. Looks like a beautiful location and you rocked this week. Nice!

Baby J – 9 Days Old – Sneak Peek {Miramichi NB Newborn Photographer}

You are about to meet one of the most adorable little babies I have ever seen! This little darling was just 9 days old when I got the chance to photograph her. You may have seen sleepy newborn shots before – where the baby is put into certain cuddly positions to be photographed as they slumber away – but I have yet to find such a baby;). Baby J slept briefly, but most of the time, she stared at me and everyone around her with those gorgeous blue eyes… so I definitely can’t complain! Here’s a quick sneak peek of some of my favourite shots:

I hope you enjoyed this sneak peek Erin and family – can’t wait to show you the rest of the shots of your little princess!

52 Fridays – Week 19 {Miramichi NB Photographer} {Personal Project}

This week, our theme for our Project 52 is…

{VINTAGE}

Luckily for me, I work at a pharmacy that has been in this town for a very long time. The building I’m in is rich in history, and filled with all kinds of interesting things… including these old pharmaceutical books, some of which go back to the 1920′s.  I’ve been a pharmacist for almost 11 years now, and it’s so interesting to see how things have changed in this profession! I particularly loved the handwritten formulas for different medicinal mixtures… none of which you would find at any pharmacy today.

I hope you enjoyed this little piece of history! Next up are Stacy and Aldo of D’Lara Photography. I can’t wait to see what vintage beauty they captured this week, along with the other 10 photographers in this group. I hope you’ll check them all out!

Very cool! That second to last macro shot is my personal favorite–the color of the water-stained pages, texture of the book, and worn out spine, just scream “vintage”. Love the subject matter too. Very interesting! Thanks for sharing.

LOVE THESE! love that these have a story behind them and you can see all the hands that have turned the pages in these books. love the shots and your processing. great light too. beautiful shots this week with lots of vintage feel.

amy - May 11, 2012 - 9:17 AM

These are great and so perfect for you! I love stuff like this that relates so well to you and especially your profession. Great processing too!

Jenn - May 11, 2012 - 9:44 AM

Such beautiful books. I have a vintage forestry book and it’s so neat to see how things have changed since it was printed.

Tammy Bilodeau - May 11, 2012 - 9:46 AM

Gack! This is so perfect, an old Merck manual and I’m sure there are a ton of other vintage pharmaceutical treasures around that old store. I worked as a Pharmacy Tech for 12 years sometimes I miss it, but mostly not…..hee hee hee. Great images this week Faye :)

Cathy K - May 12, 2012 - 8:23 AM

There’s nothing like the knowledge of the present to make us appreciate our past! Having these old books that were once used to do the same thing you today but in much more technologically advanced world must be really cool. I like the second to last macro shot the best! Awesome detail and well worn is perfect for vintage.

Christa P. - May 16, 2012 - 11:51 AM

I really love these, especially the macro shots! Love all the textures on them!

Jenny - May 16, 2012 - 10:19 PM

Wow! These are gorgeous! I LOVE the last two, such a cool way to look time through the pages. Just amazing!

Macro Mondays – Week 19 {Miramichi NB Photographer} {Personal Project}

This project is so much fun – I can’t believe it’s over 1/3 of the way through! This week’s theme?

{ON THE GROUND}

 I was out in the yard doing shots with Emma and some self-portraits for my 52 Fridays project last week, and the light was so gorgeous, I got looking for something for this week’s project. I found some cool stuff in my yard, but what I found in my neighbour’s yard (thanks Brenda!) was way better! Check out this moss – it actually looks like thread!!!

This week I’m linking to the very talented Liza Hall – I can’t wait to see what’s on the ground in her world this week!

Jenn - May 11, 2012 - 9:46 AM

I love the detail in the moss!
